DAWN OF MAN

DAWN OF MAN has developed greatly over time, as it has followed Theo's journey with his own masculinity. Originally created at the start of his transition, the performance explored stepping into manhood, the gender stereotypes we rely on and the way men perform their gender.

Theo developed Dawn of Man in 2021 with Sanctuary Queer Arts, directed by Drew Taylor. The show became a short performance film in response to the closing of live theatre during Covid-19. Theo worked with five other trans men to develop the themes of the show and to discuss trans male identity together. Three of the men joined Theo in filming the performance film, and can be seen in the film's ending moments.  These three men were Aaron Gallagher, Daemon Clelland and Indie McCue.

The film is seperated into six parts, each segment being an exploration of modern masculinity in relation to transgender men. The show is funny, heartwarming and entertaining, and aims to give a voice to the experiences of trans men and offer a different view of what being a man can be.

Theo has plans to develop the performance film into a live theatre performance over the coming year, with hopes to tour the show areound the UK.
